Knowing Who’s Who In The Zoo could be your Secret Weapon 〰️

If you’ve ever worked in a team where no one knows who’s doing what, or worse, everyone thinks they have to do it all... then you’ll appreciate this.

I was rewatching School of Rock recently (yes, the Jack Black classic from my beloved video store days 💿) and this scene simultaneously made me laugh and breath a sign of relief at the same time:

Jack Black’s character, Dewey Finn, turns a ragtag group of kids into a rock band not by forcing them into roles, but by spotting what each one naturally brings to the table. The magic my friends! The shy one becomes the stylist. The overachiever becomes the band manager. The tech kid runs sound and lights.

It’s not just funny and wholesome, it’s leadership in action. Everyone knows their part, everyone feels essential, and that’s when the magic happens.

In business, we spend so much time trying to “scale” things. You know what? The real momentum starts when your team knows their role, owns their rhythm, and feels like a vital piece of the puzzle.

So... who’s who in your zoo?

🐾 Here’s how to find out:

1. Look for what lights people up

Pay attention to what energises each person. It’s not always in their job description - when someone lights up doing a task, that’s your clue.

2. Name the “Invisible Roles”

Who’s the emotional glue? Who brings the banter? Who quietly cleans up the chaos behind the scenes? Map those hidden superpowers, not just the org chart.

3. Build In Ownership

List out every recurring task or system and assign ownership. Not just “who can do it”, but “who owns it”. This helps eliminate overlap, confusion, and those sneaky dropped balls.
