“The accountability problem” is louder than ever 〰️

Everywhere I go lately, big business, government departments, small family-run ops….it’s the same chorus:

“No one takes ownership anymore.”

“Everyone needs to be handheld.”

“People just don’t follow through.”

And look, I hear it.

It’s frustrating.

Here’s the twist:

The people saying this stuff?

They’re often the ones showing up late.

Or passing the buck.

Or spending 30 minutes in a meeting complaining instead of clarifying.

It’s giving unintentional irony… 😂

Let me be clear, though.

I’m not saying this is YOU.

You might be the one actually holding the team or your clients team together.

You might be wondering why, despite your high standards and good intentions, things still fall through the cracks.

If that’s the case…

It might not be a people problem.

It might be a systems problem.

Specifically… it could be yours or your clients onboarding.

Most onboarding programs are built to tell people what to do.

Not to build the internal drive to do it.

And if your onboarding assumes people will just "get it" because it’s been said out loud once… it’s already leaking accountability.

Nobody likes a leaky boat.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

Accountability isn’t taught. It’s modelled, mirrored, and embedded.

Telling someone what success looks like isn't enough. They need to feel personally connected to it.

Ownership doesn’t come from clarity alone. It comes from connection + consequence.

So if you're seeing a follow-through gap?

Don’t just look at the team….look at the starting line you gave them.
